Mozambican Motlekar ready to do Africa proud in Europe

South African Rotax Mini Max champion Ghazi Motlekar is all set to represent Mozambique at this weekends season opening European Rotax Max Challenge races at Genk in Belgium. Motlekar is headed for a stormy weekend with snow and heavy rain predicted, in spite of it already being well into the European springtime.

“Stormy conditions are nothing new to us,” Ghazi shrugged off the threat. “Most importantly is that I arrive at Genk as the Italian Rotax Junior Max Challenge championship leader following a close first round in that series last week. “We really are racing against the finest kart racers in the world in this weekend’s races as the Euro series is the melting pot of karting, and I'm super proud to be there flying the Mozambican flag.”

Ghazi’s dad Faizal picks up the rationale behind racing under the Mozambican flag: “We would have loved to be racing under the SA flag, but we felt discriminated by MSA last year and thought it would be best to step away, but rest assured that we did not uproot our family over perceived racism. Make no mistake, it's real.

“MSA refuses to change its modus operandi in this regard — we thought it was an April Fools joke last week, but now they’re even demanding an apology over our alleged improper allegations of MSA board members' impropriety and bias!

“It really is a pity, but this is just the tip of the iceberg and all we want to do is race. "Ghazi is now winning on the international circuit in the toughest karting championships anywhere in the world. “He’s also finding it so much easier to get on with performing at his very best without the persistent passive victimisation that we were subjected to while racing in South Africa,” dad Faizal Motlekar pointed out.

“So you see,” Ghazi concluded. “We are quite used to racing in the eye of the storm, so while I have never driven in  such conditions, I’m sure I will have no trouble with the snow. "Special thanks as always to my folks who have done so much to get me here and to Luca and Mauro from Munaretto Performance -- good luck in DD2 this weekend Luca!

“I am so excited and I just can’t wait to give my very best as I race among the finest karters in the world in the European Rotax Max Challenge season opener in stormy Belgium this weekend."
