Toyota and South Africans racing abroad scored on a quiet past Gazoo Racing Week. With no world championship racing on a weekend where South African motorsport also rested for Easter, highlights on the world stage were Kyle Busch’s Toyota Camry picking up a last corner victory in a dramatic Bristol dirt track NASCAR Sprint Cup race after leaders Chase Briscoe and Tyler Reddick clashed. Kenta Yamashita and Kazuya Oshima’s Toyota Supra meanwhile took opening round Japan Super GT honours at Okayama.

Elsewhere it was a great weekend for South Africans competing overseas. GT World Challenge America champions, South African Jordan Pepper and Italian teammate Andrea Caldarelli’s Lamborghini picked up where they left off, with a compelling victory at Sonoma over the weekend. Pepper dominated qualifying before the duo raced to victory in both races in a perfect start to their 2022 campaign.

Over in the UK, SA Investchem Formula 1600 frontrunner Jarrod Waberski won Monday's final Oulton Park GB4 series race. Waberski bounced back from a tricky qualifying to place third in the opening race, before going ninth to fourth in the second heat. Down in France, SA Endurance stalwarts Nick Adcock and Michael Jensen’s Ligier Nissan ended third in LMP3 in a European Le Mans Series opening round at Le Castellet won by Louis Deletraz, Ferdi Habsburg and Lorenzo Colombo’s LMP2 Oreca.

Moving onto two wheels, Pietermaritzburg lad Andy Jamison took a British 600cc Supersport double victory at Silverstone. Also at Silverstone, Brent Harran was fourth in the first 1000cc Superstock race and ninth in race 2.
