Best weekend for Giordano, Jurie fights hard

Bullion IT Racing duo Giordano Lupini and Jurie Swart emerged both happy and frustrated from a bruising CompCare Polo Cup outing at Red Star Raceway on Saturday. Turbo Polo rookie Lupini remains unbeaten among the first year Cup competitors as he enjoyed his best race day in fourth overall ahead of championship leading teammate Swart, who endured a tough day at the office.

“Delmas was the weekend we feared most so to come away with our best race results of the year in my Bullion IT Polo is a great result,” Giordano Lupini admitted. “We are slowly coming to terms with the challenges of qualifying on four brand new tyres so being another row up the grid put me into a better position for the races.

Race 1 was absolutely mad, and I was lucky to get away with just one bump in what was like a dodgem car race and I came home fifth from eighth on the grid. “Race 2 was far easier and I kept on moving forward to get in sixth for fourth overall. “Onward and upward on another voyage of discovery to East London on 6 August then. “Can’t wait!”

“We knew Red Star would be our toughest test of the season and that’s exactly how it turned out,” Jurie Swart explained. “I was happy to qualify in the top six and to start on the second row after Superpole, but the first race was a disaster. “A few unlucky outcomes saw me engulfed in that absolutely mad mid pack and I had to drive out of my skin to fight back to sixth.

“Race 2 was a simpler affair but we never quite aced the set-up and slipped back to fifth. “Happily, we now have Red Star behind us with a reasonable points haul and my championship lead intact with three of our strongest circuits coming up for the last three rounds. “Well done to Gio on a great weekend against all odds — Bullion IT Racing goes onto the second half on the front foot with formidable entries. “Bring it on!”

“Gio and Jurie always faced a tough weekend, but both can be proud to come away from Red Star with their heads held high,” Bullion IT CEO Clive Strover concluded. “Gio had his best Polo Cup race weekend yet and Jurie weathered a mighty storm with a good points haul. “Well done team!”
