Close racing, great karting action close WP Max season
Rotax Max Challenge karting closed off its Western Province season in style as it crowned the Cape’s 2024 champions with some more great racing at the Killarney Kart track on Saturday.
Jason Coetzee was back in town once again to score another dominant premier Rotax DD2 gearbox class win over a happy Matthew Wadeley, who pipped Ethan Stier for second this time and secure second in the title chase. An old name in karting, Shayur Harpal meanwhile returned in fourth. Missing from Saturday’s grid. Joseph Oelz had already clinched the WP DD2 title.
Behind them, the consistent Jonathan Wiehan and second race winner Neville Chapman caused a Rotax DD2 Masters upset with the overall 1-2 over regular frontrunners, final race winner and new 2024 WP DD2 Masters champion Jared Jordan, Conor Hughes, Eugene Clark and Johan Hamman in pursuit.
Charl Visser dominated Senior Max with a triple win on the day as he also romped to yet another Western Province Rotax Max karting championship. He beat Ethan Deacon, Luca Wehrli, Tate Bishop, Cole Hewetson and Jude Swart on the day.
It was far closer in high school Junior Max however, as Keagan Beaumont beat Jordon Wadeley two races to one to secure the 2024 WP title. Sebastiano Human was third on the day with Nicholas Lennox, Anwill April, Aiden Beaumont and Matthew Carter in chase.
The primary school action saw Max Boshoff and Michael O'Mahoney take the Rotax under-13 Mini Max wins. Zac Boshoff followed in third from Ruan Lewis after first race winner Michael Danks was excluded from the second race. Newcomer Jose Slamet, Zac Hindley and Zach McAuley. That was also good enough for Max Boshoff to wrap up the 2024 Western Province Rotax Mini Max title.
Under-11 Micro Max was a Michael O'Mahoney benefit with three wins on the day from Adriaan Steyn, Yaqeen Gamieldien and Liam Wharton, who did just enough to secure the 2024 WP Micro Max title. Jayden van der Merwe, Ruhan Victor, and the rest of a full Cape grid followed.
And last but not least, International and National Bambino champion Radhi Harris added the Cape title to his CV as he sped to yet another triple win over Caleb Lingeveldt, Aleena Doutie, Lehan Fourie, Divaaj Govender, Ashlyn Beaumont and Emelee Adriaans.
With the 2024 Grand Finals, South African National and Western Cape titles all settled, only the matter of the Rotax Max Gauteng Northern Regions championships remains to be decided at Zwartkops on 30 November. Before it all starts all over again in the New Year…
