A wide spectrum of cars took to the hill on Dunlop Tyres
One of Dunlop’s favourite racing events of the year, the Simola Hillclimb once again delivered action aplenty in a relaxed, friendly but competitive atmosphere over the weekend. It was good for Dunlop up the hill too, with several class successes in a surprising variety of cars.
“The Simola Hillclimb was a great weekend as ever,” Dunlop Marketing Manager Joanne De Freitas explains. “It’s a pleasant break from the high drama of the Extreme Festival every other weekend at this time of the year and a chance to do something a little different, a little more relaxed and social than our average race meeting.
“The diverse array of cars and vehicle types conquering the hill on Dunlop tyres also goes a long way to highlighting the extensive selection of tyres the Dunlop brand offers and adds to our significant reputation in South African circuit racing.”
Dunlop tyres featured on a wide variety of cars, from World Rallycross Champion, Johan Kristofferson’s wild electric category winning Volkswagen Motorsport Polo, to his class winning teammate Jonathan Mogotsi and Daniel Rowe’s SupaPolos, the MasterDrive Mustangs, a gang of Suzuki’s and several single seater and supercar entries too.
Dunlop rubber even graced the Volkswagen pace car and the similar car that British stuntman Terry Grant drove all the way up the hill on two wheels. “The Simola Hillclimb thrilled and pleased and Dunlop is proud to once again have been part of this showcase of racing,” Joanne de Freitas concluded.
“On a sad note, the weekend was marred by a tragic accident that took the life of popular race driver and Extreme Supercars regular Pieter Joubert. We extend our deepest sympathies to Pieter’s family, friends and competitors on behalf of all at Dunlop.”
