Zwartkops set for thrilling ATE VW Challenge

It’s set to be a battle of the generations, wits, and talents when the ATE Brakes VW Challenge returns to action at Zwartkops Raceway’s Regional Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola on Saturday 17 May. Class B man Stuart Mack may be leading the championship chase from Class C duo Adriaan de Beer and Mitch Coetzee, but the big needle match is between fourth and fifth drivers, Class A entries Wayne Masters and Jayden Goosen, who will lead the chase up front on Saturday.

Veteran Masters and his Performance Masters Polo and rookie teen sensation Goosen’s Ferro Energia AA Certified version may have an equal number of wins, second places and pole position and fastest lap bonus points between them. But Masters holds a four-point class title advantage by virtue of there being more cars in the Kyalami race to see more points awarded there. Neither of them has anywhere to hide however, with the likes of Ian Walker’s Mellow Veio car, Challenge lady Elna Croeser’s ATE Brakes car, Norbrake lad Dean Ross and PABAR man Mike Barbaglia snapping at their heels.

Moving on to Class B, Stuart Mack has won all four races and also claimed all six bonus points so far. Which makes his Autozone Tour Plan Polo 1.0 turbo the clear favourite for the B win at Zwartkops. It’s all up to distant championship rivals, 2-litre gang, Francis Aldrich’s Vaporworkx car, Chris Davison’s Generator Services machine, Mweza Trans regular Dewald Theron and a much improved Nicole Lombard’s PSA Africa Polo with it all to do. Watch for young class rookies, MLP driver Martin de Beer and Historics refugee Jonathan Konig’s Northern Bolt & Tool entry to soon find their feet too.

Adriaan de Beer has the distinction of leading the Class C Brat Pack title chase despite his not winning a race so far this season in his Ukwazi Polo Vivo. ECR man Mitch Coetzee and Polo Cup racer and Class C debut victor last time out, Bryce Pillay have done all the winning and losing in the only class to score full points so far this season. With the smallest class quite literally bursting at the seams, look out for comeback kid Michael Zapheriou, brother Dimitri and Kyle and Cody Petersen’s Insurisk cars, Stuart Konig’s Northern Bolt Vivo, Philip Croeser’s ATE machine and rookie Shalom trio, Nolan and Nathan Schoeman and Justin Gower to make an impression.

The ATE Brakes VW Challenge races as part of an action packed  Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola on Saturday 17 May. See you at  Zwartkops!
