The prospect of a South African Grand Prix return has stolen the headlines on the back of Minister of Sports Art and Culture Gayton McKenzie recently meeting with F1 and FIA leaders. It has also emerged that several possibilities exist with a view to hosting the race. Among them, the new Wakanda Smart City has the backing and the funds to run the race without dipping into government coffers.
The Wakanda City South African Grand Prix Bid is the centrepiece of a future smart city in the Eastern Cape. Styled on the likes of Dubai, Singapore and Monaco, Wakanda will be developed on an idyllic 20,000 hectare plus 40 km beachfront site along the Nelson Mandela Bay-IDZ Couga Port-Sunday’s River Mouth corridor in the Sarah Baartman District.
The Wakanda City Grand Prix will also play a major role in developing tourism and economic development and addressing poverty reduction and job creation as it realises Lewis Hamilton’s vision and promise to Nelson Mandela to ensure that Formula 1 comes to Africa before he retires, right in his icon’s Eastern Cape home province.
