Podiums and title lead after Tugela Enduro
Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing came away from the Tugela River Valley with a pile of silverware and the overall lead of the 2018 MSA South African National Enduro Championships following among the toughest races of the season at the dusty, rocky and thorn-infested Impi Hard Enduro.
The third round of the championship was a significant one for both team riders, as Mossel Bay rider William Oosthuizen brought it home third overall and second in the E1 Class to come away in the overall championship lead after arriving at Tugela Ferry tied in second, while Nottingham Road lad Matthew Green ended up sixth overall and third in E1 to move up to fifth in his class and sixth in a very tight overall championship chase.
“The Impi was as tough as ever but I was delighted to bring my Pepson Plastics Husqvarna home third overall and second in class to move into the lead of both the overall and class championships” William confirmed. “It may sound a little simpler than it was, but we were literally up on the pegs or paddling through the rocks for 11 hours over two days. "It was dusty too and I’m going to be pulling thorns from my forearms for weeks to come! “Thanks to the team for a brilliant bike and fantastic support as usual — we are where we need to be!”
SA Junior Enduro Champion Green revelled in the tough conditions on his Pepson Plastics Husqvarna. “That was my best race of the year so far - I more or less doubled my championship score,” Matthew pointed out. “The going was pretty tough and all those thorns never made it any easier, but we put it on the podium and moved up in both the championship tables, so a good weekend all round thanks to this fantastic team we have behind us."
“I’d say that was a pretty positive weekend for Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “We never struck any gold in the Tugela River Valley, but both our riders scored well to see William Oosthuizen into the championship lead, while young Matthew Green delivered his best result so far, so we head into the second half of the SA enduro season on a strong footing.”
