Jason’s world karting wild ride
Western Province Junior Max karting champion Jason Coetzee was wide-eyed and in awe of the level of competition ot the Junior World Championship in Bahrain as the Durbanville youngster returned from his trip over the past weekend.
“It was an absolute privilege to travel to Bahrain and to compete in the World Junior Championships,” Jason explained. “Being our first time there, our objective was to get into the pre-finals and then take it from there, but with 100 karts fighting to get on to 60 pre-final grid slots and only half of those will go into the final, it was never going to be easy and we missed the cut.
“Still, it was an awesome experience and we learned so much - the guys are so quick there and the karts are also very light, so we could not get near our target weight, but now we know what it takes to race there. “It was a bit of an eye opener actually, but I am grateful for the experience and also the opportunity to have competed there.
“Thanks so much to RKT, my dad and everyone who made this dream come true, but now it’s back to reality and exams at school before we can look ahead to next year!”
