Coetzee scores in tough Rok World Finals

Durbanville, Cape kart racer Jason Coetzee heads home from the Rok International Karting Finals on the shores of Italy’s Lake Garda richer for the experience. Coetzee competed against top karters from around the world in the Super Rok class and despite struggling with the set-up of his kart, managed positive results to end up seventeenth overall.

“It was a good weekend - we learned a lot and I am truly grateful for the experience to have competed against the best in the world,” Jason admitted. “I think I could have done a bit better if we had overcome a few problems we had with the handling of my chassis - I started 17th in the Final and made my way up to around 13th when my tyres got hot again, so I dropped off to end up 17th in the end - I’m happy with the weekend, but not too chuffed with the results - they could have been better.

“I have to thank a lot of people for the opportunity to race in the Rok Finals - my folks in particular but also to my team RKT and Ward Racing who looked after us for the week.” Jason now turns his attention to this Saturday 21 October’s Western Province Karting Finals, where he is not only in the running for both the Junior Max title he leads and Senior Max, where he sits second, but he will also make his DD2 debut at Killarney.

“This weekend is going to be interesting — I have two championships to fight for and I will race a DD2 kart for the first time to prepare for the Rotax Max World Finals in that class in Portugal next month, but I can’t wait - nine races in one day - I’m very excited, especially for DD2 - bring it on!”
