Coetzee prepares for Vaal national in style
Durbanville, Cape Town kart racer Jason Coetzee headed to Vereeniging over the weekend to race the Northern Regions kart races at the Laserfiche Raceway in preparation for the national there in two weeks and came back more than happy with his performance. Coetzee enjoyed a positive day in the DD2 gearbox class and while he was unlucky in Senior Max, he scored a stunning win from the back in the final of those three races on the day.
“It was good,” Jason confirmed “I have definitely found something special! “We were very good in Senior Max qualifying, but we tried something different in race 1, which did not work so I had to work hard for fourth. “I wasn’t too happy with that, but I had a very good second race - I won but we were excluded for a silly technical issue - I was happy to have sorted the chassis though.
“That meant I had to start last in the final, but it rained just before the race — I was more than happy about that because I love driving in the rain! “we made the right choice on set-up too — I was in the lead by lap 3 and won easily — a good comeback from last to first, which I was pretty happy about!
“DD2 was good too - I took a couple of thirds and a fifth, which was not bad considering who I’m racing with there, but I still want a better result in the national. “I think the trip was really worth our while — we definitely have found a lot this weekend and we go back to Vereeniging in a good place in two weeks time! “Huge thanks to Team Xtreme and Lyle, my mechanic in DD2 and to my family, my engineer Cleopas, Wesley and SAKRA in Senior. “Now for that national!”
