Vereeniging pace but drama for Jason

Cape Town’s Jason Coetzee endured a tough weekend at the second round of the Rotax Max Challenge South African karting championships at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway on Sunday, showing exceptional pace but also being blighted by issues that hampered his progress in both the DD2 and Senior Max classes. Jason however won a race and set a new Senior Max lap record and emerged 8th overall and best of the rookies in the highly competitive DD2.

“It was a disappointing race day — we came away with a bit less than I’d bargained for but there were a few very good positives to take home,” Jason admitted. “I was very happy with my pace with my EMR Extreme CRG in DD2 - I ended up sixth on race 1 and I was very happy with third in the final, but I had an incident while running well up, which put me to the back of the field in the middle race, which cost me a much better result.

“I was on pole position for Senior Max on my SAKRA Kosmic, but we had an issue in the first race. “I made up by breaking the lap record in the second race and winning the final, but it wasn’t a very good day overall. “Now I will work and train very hard to focus and prepare for the next regional in Cape Town before a most important weekend at my Killarney home national, where I hope we can do well to best thank everyone in my corner.”
