Snyman focused on Mini Max glory

South African Mini Max karting championship leader Troy Snyman takes a healthy lead into the Rotax Max Finals at Zwartkops in Pretoria on 21 September, but the Pietermaritzburg youngster is taking nothing for granted in his quest to seal the title and earn the honour of representing South Africa in the Max Grand Finals in Italy in October.

Snyman travelled to Sarno in Italy, not just in preparation for the SA Finals next week, but also to learn the circuit he will race should he wrap up his title next week and it went well as Troy took his second win in two Italian outings this year. “Sarno was a special experience, but now my coach Wesleigh Orr and I are fully focussed on the South African Finals at Zwartkops where we only have one goal and that is to wrap up the South African Mini Max title.

“That will give me the ticket we need to compete in the Grand Finals and the opportunity to become South Africa’s second Mini Max world champion after Jayden Els in 2016. “I have had a great season in the SAs and we've won seven heats out of nine and also took each round overall to arrive in Pretoria a 50-point championship lead.

“Still, with 140 points on the table at Zwartkops, it is nowhere near over — Matthew Morrell, Ghazi Motlekar, Jason MacBeath and Ethan Stier are formidable rivals, but Muhammed Wally is probably the biggest danger as he also has three zero scores and we all have to drop our three worst race results and so far for me those are two second places and a win! “Anything can still happen and there is only one way to be sure, so I can’t wait to race!”
