Pepper, Meintjies, Harris & the Stewarts keen to star at Zwartkops

Thursday is not your average race day, but nest week Thursday being Youth Day also happens to be the next round of the Extreme Festival at Zwartkops and Lee Thompson Racing’s five Polos will be out to win in the Comsol VW Challenge races come 16 June.

Not that winning is anything new to the team, with Thompson’s two Class A VW Polos dominating the season so far and Tasmin Pepper and Waldie Meintjies having won the lion’s share of this year’s races. “We have been pretty strong so far,” team principal Lee Thompson pointed out. “So all we really have to do is carry on where we left off.”

Tasmin Pepper dominated the last meeting in her baby blue Campos Transport Alpine LTR VW Polo. “I’m looking forward to Zwartkops,” the Edenvale lass confirmed. “I won there last time out, so I’m looking for a repeat of the perfect weekend. “My team is doing a fantastic job — so huge thanks to Lee and the guys for all the effort as always in getting the car ready to race.”

Waldie Meintjies is top of the list of gentlemen intent to stem his lady teammate’s charge: “I have won at Zwartkops this year,” Meintjies, who drives an identical silver LTR Polo pointed out. “But I want to make that more of a habit now!” Pepper and Meintjies will also have to deal with a few other men keen to break their iron grip on the class, with Rory Atkinson and James Hurley among them, but the Thompson teammates have no intention of giving anything away…

Thompson Racing’s a trio of Comsol Challenge Class B Polo Vivos should be back to full strength this weekend too. Daine Stewart is looking to bounce back after missing the last round thanks to a rugby concussion, while Michael Harris missed the previous round after having his appendix out, but both will be back out alongside Milé Stewart on Thursday.

“I’m feeling very confident heading into the Zwartkops weekend,” Daine explained. “I’m well rested and ready to get back on the track and hopefully a podium will be the end result. “But RCS Security LTR brother Milé is keen to keep up the progress following a strong last meeting and Michael Harris’ is just as intent to put his red SA Lube Polo LTR Vivo onto the podium too.

“I’m really looking forward to Zwartkops next week,” Harris reported. “This time around I hope to capitalise on a good qualifying — the car is capable, so it’s up to me. “Results are important halfway through the season and after some good dices at the last round I am feeling more confident, bit I also need to extend a huge word of thanks to Lee Thompson Racing and SA Lube.” Fortunately there are three steps on the podium, which could allow Thompson’s trio to each cross off a significant racing bucket list achievement…

“The guys are all looking forward to Zwartkops on Thursday,” Lee Thompson concluded. “It’s a track that guarantees great action, so we’re looking forward to keeping at the front of it.”
