Boyd title aspirations in top gear after PE
SACS College schoolboy Sebastian Boyd continued to star in the open class premier DD2 championship of the SA national Rotax Max Challenge at the weekend’s second round races in Port Elizabeth over the weekend. Boyd raced hard and smart through the weekend to end up a close fourth overall and retain his now joint third in the title chase.
“We had another great weekend in spite of all the challenges,” Sebastian admitted. “Qualifying was not the best in the dry Saturday evening and that would cause more trouble for me at the start of race 1 in the wet as Justin Allison hit Neutral on the start in front of me and I was forced to avoid him. “That meant pretty much the entire field passed me, so I had to fight from way back 17th to end up eighth, so not the best of starts to the weekend.
"The second race was better — I was third until Benjamin passed me at mid distance, but Brad Liebenberg hit trouble and I ended up third and then I drove from seventh to fourth in the final to end up fourth overall.
“To be honest we were always scratching for pace this weekend - Benjamin was in a league of his own and de Beer and Liebenberg both also had great pace, so it was always going to be down to racecraft and I am very happy to come away still third in the championship chase - now we just need to find a bit more speed for the next Max national at iDube in August.”
