Logan has already won in his rookie karting year

Seven-year old Logan Billau only raced a kart for the first time a little over a year ago, but he’s certainly made a great impression in that time. He won on his third outing in February 2021 and enjoyed a great, learning season that culminated with fifth overall in the South African national Rotax Max Bambino championship in his rookie season.

“We had a tough weekend at Zwartkops — I was hit from behind in the second and that bent my axle, so my kart was vibrating horribly,” Logan explained. “But I gave it my best and ended up sixth for the day and I am so proud about that!” Logan made his karting debut in August last year, but he was shaken up by a crash that weekend. “I stopped for a bit, but I really missed karting and we entered the last club race last year and I finished third!”

“Then we went to Cape Town and I finished third in my first national outing even though I had never driven at Killarney before that weekend! “I won my first race in heat 2 and came second and third in the other races at the Formula K regional at Benoni and we finished a close second for the day. “The next National was back at Formula K and I was dicing for the first race win. “But the two karts I was racing had a crash and I could not miss them!

“So we fixed my kart and I fought back to lead most of race 3 and we ended up seventh for the day. “We then went to iDube in KwaZulu Natal for the next national - wow, that’s such a cool track, but it's very hard and we had engine trouble. “I fought hard and came home 8th for the weekend and I learned so much.” Logan then raced the past weekend's National Final; to come home fifth and he’s already counting the sleeps to the next regional at Formula K this weekend.

“I can’t wait to get back to Formula K. “I won my first race there and really like the track, so we are really looking forward to fighting for another win!” Logan concluded. “It’s only my first year of racing and we have had a great start — I ended up fifth in the South African Bambino championship and I hope that with hard work and focus, I can fight for the title next year. “I love my karting with my mom and dad and my team in my corner — it’s such fun and I am learning so much!”
