Comeback hero Logan goes from hospital to sixth in the world

South African under-10 Mini Rok karter Logan Billau came home delighted from a tough, testing and dramatic weekend of racing at the Rok Cup International  Superfinals at Lonato, Italy over the weekend. In spite of a scary accident that saw him visit the local hospital after he rolled his kart in the second heat, young Billau fought back to deliver a splendid sixth overall against the finest Rok karters from across the world.

“What an awesome week of racing!” Logan confided. “There was a moment lying in hospital after I flipped my kart in the second heat on Thursday afternoon, that I thought it was all over. But the doctors cleared me to race after my X-rays, and I was back at the track where the team had the kart ready for the third heat and I was back in action!

“I started the third heat 34th and drove my heart out to finish eleventh to sneak into the pre-final. Then I finished tenth in my pre-final, which qualified me to start the final in fifteenth, with all of those races run in wet and rainy conditions. I had a great start, kept out of trouble and was up to ninth by the end of the first lap. From there I fought my way up to sixth, which was an incredible result, all considered.

“Sixth in the world? I’ll take that! Thanks so much to my team, my coach and my folks – this is only my first year in Mini Rok, so I am so excited for the future!” Under-10 is a sub-category of  the under-12 Mini Rok racing class, where 9-year old Logan has already found great success. He now looks forward to grow further as a driver into the coming season.
