WP Rotax Max karting champions crowned at Killarney

The 2021 Cape Rotax Max Karting Challenge came to a head at Killarney on Saturday. Joseph Oelz was crowned DD2 champion in his absence, Conor Hughes took the DD2 Masters title and Tate Bishop is WP Senior Max champion. In the schoolboy classes, Reza Levy is Junior Max, Joaquin de Oliveira is Mini and Keagan Beaumont Micro Max champion and Michael Danks is the '21 baby Bambino champ. All titles remain subject to final ratification.

On track it was en main a day of fresh faces on the various podiums. Storm Lanfear took DD2 honours on his RDSA/Cycle of Life Kosmic in champion Oelz and runner-up Seb Boyd’s absence. Masters top two, champion Conor Hughes’ Tony Kart and CRG duo Marco Viegas and Rafe Tayler were next up, with Masters men Andre Steenkamp’s Kosmic and CRG drivers Andrew Thomas, Niel Lambrechts and Steve Beaumont in pursuit.

Tate Bishop wrapped up his Senior Max title in style on his ANGRI Kosmic. He beat dicing RDSA trio Andrew Rackstraw's CRG, Storm Lanfear’s Kosmic and Tristan de Nobrega’s CRG and Julian van der Watt’s CRG. A delighted Matthew Wadeley won the final to take the day after race 1 and 2 winner, EMR Kartsport CRG teammate Reza Levy did not start the final after a kart issue. Valentino Hoffman's Kosmic, Jaden Jacobs Tony Joshua Smit’s CRG and Levy were next up.

Micro Max champion Keagan Beaumont showed a hint of things to come as he took a second and a couple of heat wins to take the day on his under-13 Mini Max debut on his CRG. It was no mean feat either, as he beat race class regulars, race 1 winner, Joshua Smit’s S&S RS, Reese Koorzen’s Parolin, Jordon Wadeley’s EMR Kartsport CRG and champion Joaquin de Oliveira's Parolin.

Younger brother Aiden Beaumont's Birel topped a splendid under-11 Micro Max fight. He, Dale Hobbs’ Parolin and Matthew Chiwara’s CRG each won a heat to edge champion, Keagan Beaumont’s Parolin to fourth. Liam Koekemoer’s Nashua Cape Kosmic was next up from John Norman’s CRG. And unstoppable Zach McAuley took the Bambino day as he left Liam Wharton, champion Michael Danks, Ruan Lewis, Zac Boshoff and Caleb Lingeveldt to fight over the scraps.

The last appointment of the local season will be the Gauteng Finals at Zwartkops Saturday 4 December. Then the South African team heads for the ‘Olympics of Karting’ Grand Finals to close off the Rotax Max season at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit 11-18 December.
