The Volkswagen Motorsport Rookie Cup is heading to its spiritual home at Aldo Scribante, a literal stone’s throw from the Volkswagen plant and Motorsport headquarters, for its penultimate round on Saturday 14 September. And with a new championship leader and just two points separating Judd Bertholdt and Dhivyen Naidoo at the top of the log, these young fighters have certainly impressed.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to behold these five young men evolving from literally wet behind the ears karters into the master drivers of the future we have before us,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe observes. “Of course, the pressure is on and there’s the lure of the Rookie champion landing an Astron Energy Polo Cup factory drive next year. But wherever they go in racing, these five young lions will be fully, and properly prepared to future racing careers.

This year our recruits have put on an exceptional no-holds-barred show every time they have strapped into their cars. The Volkswagen Rookie Cup title chase is getting tighter every time they race. Gauteng lad Judd Bertholdt has moved into the provisional lead, with Durbanite Dhivyen Naidoo only two points adrift. Third placed Jozi youngster Jayden Goosen will be out to make up for lost ground following a retirement that dented his title hopes last time out, and Gqeberha rookie Josh Moore wants to impress his home fans in his battle for fourth with Durban rival Uzair Khan at Aldo Scribante this weekend.

The rookies race with champion coaches Matthew Merton and Daniel Rowe or Jonathan Mogotsi to keep the closest eye on progress. The Rookie syllabus covers everything from driver fitness to physical and mental preparation, teamwork, data analysis, collaborating with the team and dealing with the media and every other aspect of a racing career.
