Robert Wolk dominates Killarney to clinch championship

Robert Wolk delivered a crushing double victory off pole position with the fastest lap at Killarney to wrap up the 2024 South African Touring Cars championship for Chemical Logistics Racing with a round still left to run. Teammates Julian van der Watt ended second in both races, while Andrew Schofield was fifth in another great day for the team.

Robert Wolk started on the front foot as he claimed the pole position bonus point in the Chemical Logistics WCT BMW 128ti TC, before romping to a lights to flag opening feature race win. He was quickly up to second from his sixth place start in the second, reverse grid sprint race, and soon into the lead to wrap it up with a dominant Saturday performance. “2024 was by far our simplest championship win,” Robert smiled. “We have it in the bag with two races left to run so now we can just go race the Zwartkops finale. Huge thanks to the entire team for a brilliant car. This one’s for all of us!”

Julian van der Watt also enjoyed a great weekend aboard his Investchem Volkswagen Golf TC. “That was a pretty good day,” Julian admitted. “We started second, but I was a bit caught out on the first lap so had to fight back from fourth, but I managed to get back to second where I stayed for the race. The reverse grid race went well and I was able to quicky rise to second and hold station behind Robert for second once again, and second for the day. Well done Rob and thanks to the team. Now for Zwartkops where I plan to finish it off in style!”

Andy Schofield enjoyed a positive day in his Fly Safair Chemical Logistics WCT BMW 128ti TC. “I qualified OK and took advantage of quite a bit of chaos around me to come home fourth in the first race,” Andy reflected. “It was more of the same in the second heat, where I was fifth to end up fifth overall with another decent championship haul. Thanks to the team for a great car as always!”

“That’s job done and in perfect style too!” WCT team boss Stuart Thompson beamed. “First and second throughout the weekend to wrap the championship up with a round still to race is pretty classy. Proud of you guys!” Team Principal Ian Schofield concluded: “That was a perfect day to clinch a great championship. Well done to every one of our team, this is a truly special achievement.”
