Motorsport ends season with fun weekend at Zwartkops

Volkswagen Motorsport starred at the season ending Zwartkops Top of the Hill climb over the weekend. Jonathan Mogotsi and Bradley Liebenberg delivered a giant-killing act to end up third and fourth in the Modified Class against far more powerful and exotic machinery, while the Volkswagen Rookie Cup Media Challenge thrilled to deliver an unexpected result.

“Wow, we were aiming for a top ten and both our Polo SupaCups ended up in the top five on a day when the Rookie Cup Media Shootout also surprised,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe explains. “Jonathan Mogotsi Racing ended a giant-killing third in Modified Production with Brad Liebenberg a strong fourth. And consistency killed the cat as Mauro da Luz and Nicky Netshifhefhe won the Shootout.”

Jonathan Mogotsi in the hillclimb special SupaCup and Bradley Liebenberg driving a regular race version, impressed with nimble handling and quick times in practice and qualifying. Then Jonathan stunned with a 57.059 climb to take a splendid third against a field of monster hillclimb GT-R and other specials with Liebenberg close behind in an equally impressive fourth in Modified Production.

Uzair Khan set the pace in Rookie Cup Media Challenge qualifying a tenth of a second clear of Christopher Tait, Luke Hill, and Mauro da Luz. Nicky Netshifhefhe was quickest of the media celebrities from Jeanette Kritzinger, Chad Jones, and Mpho Maboi. Luke Hill then teamed up with Chad Jones for the race runs, Uzair Khan with Mpho Maboi, Chris Tait with Jeanette Kritzinger and Mauro da Luz with Nicky Netshifhefhe for the finals.

Hill emerged quickest of all by seven hundredths from Khan with Tait and da Luz next. Netshifhefhe impressed to beat Kritzinger, Maboi and Jones among the media. But with the teams’ times combined, Mauro da Luz and Nicky Netshifhefhe clinched the Rookie Media Shootout by half a second from Christopher Tait and Jeanette Kritzinger with Uzair Khan and Mpho Maboi, and Luke Hill and Chad Jones third and fourth.

“That was a splendid way to end a tough and hard fought racing season,” Mike Rowe concludes. “Now we retreat to prepare some thrilling new plans for the season ahead. Volkswagen Motorsport wishes all our fans, rivals, and everyone else in motorsport a great Festive Season. See you in the New Year!”
