It's Tafani versus Angel at Killarney

Saturday 8 March promises to be a red letter day for the V8 Masters at Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway as old rivals, championship leader Fabio Tafani and Marcel Angel (Autohaus Angel), who showed a great turn of speed last time out, return to face off at the fourth round of the series reserved for apparent gentleman drivers driving identical Mustang like APV347 V8 racers.

Tafani, who travels from Pretoria to race his turquoise and dayglo orange V8, dominated the opening two meetings in Angel's absence, but an on form Marcel returned at round 3 and proceeded to take a dominant pole position before racing off to a strong opening race win. Alas, Angel's engine failed in race 2 to allow Tafani off the hook to take his fourth win of the season. Still there’s a high degree of honour in this and these two will be at it again this weekend — more mature gentleman racers or not!

Now being gentlemen of good taste, among the V8 Masters drivers occasionally skip a meeting without much notice, so with the weekend offering the likes of the Canadian Grand Prix, French Open tennis and Nations League soccer finals, who knows who may slip away, but considering Mark Ridgway missed the last race, he will likely relish the opportunity to take advantage of a Tafani and Angel duel to add another win to his race 2 success, so expect to see Mark on the grid.

Richard Schreuder is another man looking to make good after a troubled race last time out, to improve his championship lot in third position, while series regulars, Sean Moore (Zeigler), Brian Evans (Cape Eye Laser), Rob Warrington and Brad Hall should be out to continue their championship charges. It's also a matter of wait and see if Jozi V8 Masters and motorsport veterans Paolo Cavallieri and Rui Campos (Campos Transport) make the trip to race.

The action is not just confined to the quicker guys — there's a separate V8 Masters Silver Class for less experienced gentlemen and those keen on a ever so slightly more sedate pace and that's where Mike Brooks should have his work cut out by the likes of Charl van Sittert (CEPS Synergy), Harry Taylor and Rhoderick Simpson.

V8 Masters is riding the crest of a wave at the moment, with most cars sporting a driver — there are only two seats left available at the moment should gentlemen racers of more mature age be so inclined. Find out more about that and the latest race and series news at www.v8masters.co.za.

The V8 Masters form part of a bumper action-packed Killarney Wingfield Power Series raceday Saturday 8 June -  racing starts mid-morning, so make sure to be there early so as not to miss the action!
