Gilbert, Bogiages set for Lesotho charge

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing heads to the 27 July Live Lesotho 400 African Cross Country Motorcycle championship round with regular OR2 rider Taki Bogiages and stand-in Brett Swanepoel aboard its race machines after OR1 championship leader star Kenny Gilbert was ruled out of the weekend's race following a testing tumble.

“Kenny Gilbert will unfortunately not be racing the Lesotho Live 400,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham explained. “Kenny fell in testing and has suffered an injury that will essentially keep him out of the rest of the season. “As heartbreaking as it is that he is unable to defend his championship lead, Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing’s primary concern is for Kenny — we are fully behind our star rider and will contribute whatever we can to see him back up to speed as soon as possible."

The team has drafted former SA OR2 champion Brett Swanepoel into the team in Kenny’s place aboard its open class OR1 machine. “It’s not the nicest way to get back into the Cross Country saddle and I am really sad for Kenny,” Brett, who is also racing a Pepson Plastics Husqvarna in the 2019 SA Enduro Championship admitted. “But I have a job to do and I’m looking forward to racing in Lesotho again following a good run there in the recent SA Enduro round  — let’s see what we can do.”

Bogiages meanwhile heads to the Maluti Mountains keen to ramp his OR2 title chase up following strong regional race results as he returns to full strength. “I am delighted with my day by day progress,” Taki admitted. “Now the hard work starts as I push forward. “I can't thank my Pepson Plastics Husqvarna team enough for the support throughout, but our next stop is the Lesotho national where I plan to pay all the guys back with best possible results.”

“We were planning to arrive at the Live Lesotho 400 Cross Country race on the front foot," Fred Fensham concluded. “That is unfortunately not to be but we will be out there fighting with Taki and Brett in action — go get it guys!”
