Get ready for dawn to dusk racing in Pretoria

Appropriately billed Supercars and Pocket Rockets, Zwartkops’ deep winter June 11 Regional Festival promises just that. Flat out racing supercars and pocket rocket racing of the highest degree. Featuring everything from flying G+H Extreme Supercars to a visiting troupe of tiny Mozambican Kia Picantos and everything in between, from PABAR Volkswagen Challenge, M Performance Parts BMWs, Car Care Clinic 111s and Superhatch to Lotus Challenge, Inex Legends and the rest, Gauteng race fans have a full day of dawn to dusk racing to look forward to in Pretoria.

Plausibly the highlight of the day, expect the G+H Extreme Supercars not only to be the fastest, but also the most spectacular cars at Zwartkops. Jonathan du Toit’s Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan duked it out with Charl Aranges’ Stradale Audi R8 LMS GT3 in Port Elizabeth last week, so expect that duel to continue plausibly with the added interest of Dane Angel and Franco Scribante’s turbo Porsches, which should have an edge at Gauteng’s high altitude.

Add GT3 men Gianni Giannoccaro's Stradale BISC Nissan GTR R35, title contender Greg Parton’s Drizit Lamborghini Huracan and Mark du Toit in a Trans Africa Ferrari F430 GT3. In the classes, Marius Jackson’s MJR Audi R8 LMS GT3 will take on young Kwanda Mokoena’s similar Amandla Coal GT4 machine and Deon du Plessis’ 247 KTM X-Bow. Add Cape visitors Mansoor Parker’s Jive and Ammaar Coetzee’s A&M BMW M3s up against locals, Uli Sanne and Jimmy Giannoccaro’s G+H Transport BMW Z4 Coupes.

Another of the weekend highlights, sits on the complete opposite side of the scale. A travelling party of Mozambican Kia Picanto Cups return to Zwartkops for what promises to be another bruising encounter this weekend. You may recognise among the drivers in the shared cars as Pedro Pita teams up with Etienne van der Linde and Marco da Cunha with Sílvio Coelho. Add the likes of Marco António Pereira de Abreu y Orlando Henrique de Saavedra Settimelli, João Alberty y Rui Vilela Sandro Alves and Gereth Neil, among others.

Entries for the PABAR VW Challenge are once again chasing 40, meaning that the field is once again likely to be split into Classes A and C racing together, and Class B alone. Expect Rory Atkinson's BHIT car to fight it out for Class A honours with Performance Wayne and Bevin Masters’ CPS Polos, Stiaan Kriel’s Design Hut machine, Waldie Meintjies, Mr PABAR Mike Barbaglia, and Pozidrive's Sam and son Chris Dale. Add Gavin Ross, Derick Smalberger, Mydi Mfana and Dewald Theron and, Cape Town pair, super quick Marco Busi’s Simtech Automan GAP Polo and Summit Racing lad Nathan Victor up to play interference.

Rookie hero Hannes Scheepers’s Dainfern Dental Polo is the class B car to beat. Expect Hot 102.7 FM lass Charisse van der Merwe, Jesus Saves’ Francois van Zyl, Anthony Pretorius’ Fast car and JRT duo, Ethan and dad Mitch Coetzee to lead the chase. Add Tinahe Ncube, Karshin Naidoo and Mo Karodia, while Stuart Mack and Elna Croeser are back. Plus Dean Ross, Stelio Nousias, Elio Muzzulini, Jacques Hayes, Miguel Dias, Aldin Haupt and Robbie Cosani. Mellow Veio man Ian Walker will have champion Pierluigi Muzzulini’s FSS Polo, Charl Andersen, Dino Smit, Philip Croeser, Jan Spamers, Mark Castel and Reno van Heerden to fight off in Class C.

The M Performance Parts BMW races always entertain and judging by their last outing, Adrian Dalton should be the man to beat at Zwartkops as well, in his XTra M3. Sav Gualtieri’s similar car, William Einkamerer’s 325i, Fabio Fedetto and Arrie van der Berg will be out to get him. The league of nations Class B will see Andreas Meier’s 320i Super Touring take Jagger Robertson, Carlo Garbini, Salvi Gualtieri, Nic van Zyl, Oz Biagioni ,Thomas Potgieter and Alan Hilligenn on.

Matthew Wadeley starts as the Class C favourite with  Renier Smith and Hein van der Merwe, as well a Mish-al Sing, Trevor Long and Troy Cochran on his case. Also watch for Shane Grobler, Varish Ganpath Craig Herbst, Arri van Heerden, Anand Naidu, Manny Ribeiro and Dewit Oosthuizen in Class D and Bernard De Gouveia, Mike Grobler won E from Shaun Dodd, Nick Fischer, Spiro Makris and Bertie Rietveld in Class E.

Lotus Challenge hot shots Thomas Falkiner’s ARE Taylon and Jeffrey Kruger’s Design Hut Birkins have Jeff’s dad John Kruger, Adlem Auto quartet Mackie Adlem, Rudi Barnard, Andre Human and Juan Du Toit, Clive Wilmot and JP Nortje NJ4 Auto Craft machines for company. The Locost class is also set to star as Leet Racing five, Miles Downard, Nick Hodgson, Davide Favo, Matthys de Kock and Andre du Plessis take on Sean Hepburn, Sean Hewitt and Ben Knights. Also quick and nimble,  Devin, Jagger and Tyler Robinson will take Ian Upton, Johann van de Venter and Gerhard Roux in INEX Legends.

Back to the tin-tops, Jonathan du Toit’s TAR machine joins teammate Ish Baloyi, Dhiren Ganasen, Car Care Clinic man Louis Scholtz and This Govender's similar Honda Civics in Car Care Clinic Superhatch action. They will take on Red Star winner Lenard Archer’s ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz, Pro Auto's Andre Dannhauser and Francis Aldrich’s Opel Corsas, Polo duo Melanie Spurr’s Car Care Clinic and Francois Henning's Hennie's Polos, George Aldrich in a Nissan Sabre and Christiaan van Wyk’s NBR Ford Figo. That should also prove yet another cracking encounter.

Moving on to the Car Care Clinic 111s, ex Polo Cup racer Craig Napier’s JRT Golf, Historic duo, Robert Clark’s Youngtimer Containerforce Ballade and Jannie van Rooyen's PAR Scirocco, and Mark du Toit join the fray. Wouter Roos' Car Care Clinic Golf also returns to race against Lenard Archer’s ACD Honda, Wayne Lebotschy’s Shield Golf, Phillip Meyer’s Pple Porsche 924 GTR, Johan van der Vyver in a Devlaw Subaru WRX STi, Dhiren Ganasen in a Honda Civic and Didi Matjila’s RTS Polo.

There’s always a broad variety in the On The Track Clubmans running with National Sports and GT cars. Starting with the sportscars, Paul Sullivan's Nash MV3 and Gerard Krige’s Mercury and Neil de Later’s Torpak Birkin 7s will take on Eugene Gouws’ Master Mowers Little Chevy Firenza V8, Anton Bitzer’s Mazda RX7 and Louis Cloete’s Performance Parts Beetle. Add Wayne Lebotschy's Shield and Wayne Pereira's Grange Golfs, Kobus Brits’ Polo and hot Honda men Lenard Archer’s ACD Type R, Dirk Lawrence’s JDM, Rodney Kruis’ Real Pro and Tjaart Visser's Ballade and Tony Tee Szabo’s Civic. Should make for some interesting competition.

Zwartkops’ Silvercup racers will continue their hectic early season on Saturday. Spaceframe gang, Marius Jacobs’ AAA, Giulio Airaga’s Desco and Simone Jacobs’ Auto Perfect Tigras, Juan Otto’s Highveld Tar Mitsubishi are up against Chris Cornje’ Dozer VW and Evert Seyffert Jr.’s Cable Solutions RX8. They have Evert Seyffert Sr.’s Chevy Can-Am, Chantelle Bakkes, Linda Henning, Marthinus Viljoen, Cyril Jacobs, Paul van Niekerk, Lourens Verwey, Wayne Pereira and Neo van der Walt’s Golfs, Riaan Draper and Kobus Brandt’s Hyundai i20s, Kevin Paynte in a Ballade and Freek Blignaut’s Mazda 323 to deal with.

With practice and qualifying on Friday, it’s a full Saturday of racing starting seven am to seventeen hundred hours at the June 11 Supercars and Pocket Rockets, Zwartkops Regional Festival. Adults enter for R130, its R90 for students and kids under 12 get in for free. Sound’s like a brilliant racing day’s entertainment. More at www.zwartkops.co.za.
