Great promise, but Knockhill dishes up very little
Cape Town Porsche Cup GB Rookie Andrew Rackstraw’s Scottish race weekend looked so promising after he qualified fourth on Saturday. It would however not go quite as planned. Still, Andrew put his best foot forward to deliver a fine second heat drive to resurrect a little glory out of an otherwise tough weekend on track.
"Racing at Knockhill in a Porsche Cup car is a privilege on its own,” Andrew explained “What an amazing circuit, especially in that incredibly close qualifying session. After being quickest of all in both Friday practice sessions, I was neither happy nor disappointed with fourth on the grid, a tenth of a second off pole and with the top ten cars covered by just two tenths! Sadly it turned out that disappointment was the one that would fit better after I was taken out as I tried to make a move in turn one on the first lap.
So I found myself at the back, and not that it really mattered, but the perpetrator was penalised for his efforts and put behind me on the second race grid. We’ll just store that one in the don’t remember file! That also meant I was down in sixteenth on the grid. I’d hoped for a bit of a better climb up the field in Heat 2, but the wash off these cars is so extreme, that it’s almost impossible to pass. So I suppose I can be happy with making the most overtakes to climb up to tenth.
“That’s just racing, however. It can be a cruel mistress. I’m still a strong second in the rookie title chase so it’s still all to play for. So we’ll keep on fighting on to the next one at Donington after another short, two week break on the 24-25 August weekend. Bring it on!
