Andrew scores in Race 1, taken out in Race 2
Andrew Rackstraw endured another tough hit and miss Porsche Cup GB weekend aboard his Investchem 911 at Donington Park in England on Saturday. The Cape Town rookie qualified well enough in sixth on a drying track and raced home fifth in the opening race. The second heat however once again never went quite as planned as it often does in that cauldron of super-competitive one-make racing.
"Donington is always a pleasure and this was another great weekend of racing filled with positives as much as it was with problems,” Andrew reflected. “Qualifying was on a drying track and I was fastest on my first run in damp conditions. We however missed the ideal window on my second set of tyres and ended sixth on the grid. “I escaped the start melee and made up a place to finish fifth despite some set-up issues on the car.
“I was sixth once again on the second race grid, but this time I was a little less lucky. As it perhaps too often goes in this form of racing, I was collected hard in turn 1 on the opening lap by another rival. That sadly left my steering way out of kilter and it was pointless to continue, so we called it a day.
“The simplest way to overcome this is to qualify on the front row and escape the madness, but then the weather here in Blighty also makes that pretty complicated! Still, I’m only in my first year and we are sitting sixth overall in the Pro standings as the second rookie in spite of some tough breaks. So we’re looking forward to a little better luck next time out at Silverstone 21-22 September.”
