Treacherous conditions bring Porsche Cup Challenges

South African Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain hope Andrew Rackstraw survived a challenging Silverstone penultimate championship round run in soaking conditions over the weekend. Andrew qualified an encouraging fifth in a confusing track limits penalty-strewn session, before fighting it home ninth and best rookie after taking another knock in a wet opening heat. A wrong tyre call ruined his second race.

We were there, or thereabouts in practice and tried something different in qualifying, which worked quite well. But it was raining for the first race Sunday morning and nobody had run in the wet, so we took a chance on set-up. It felt good though, but after a lap, bang! I was hit hard again and that deranged the alignment, so I had to work really hard to bring it home, as I dropped down to end up ninth, which wasn’t quite ideal.

“We then took a gamble to go on slicks at the last second for race 2, and never quite got the pressures right. That really was a struggle to end a weekend to forget. On the plus side, this is all part of the learning curve and we’re growing together as a team, so it’s not at all bad. We have one race left at Brands Hatch, where I am really at home so that should be a good one for us. Now let’s close it off in style.”
