Jonathan into SupaCup lead, Kyle's maiden Polo win

Volkswagen Motorsport returns home victorious from Saturday’s penultimate South African National Extreme Festival at Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway. A second race victory saw Jonathan Mogotsi into the SupaCup championship lead with just two races left to run, while teammate Charl Michael Visser consolidated his third in the SupaCup. It went even better in Astron Energy Polo Cup, where Rookie Cup champion Kyle Visser delivered his maiden race win on his way to overall victory.

“Wow, what a day for the team!” Mike Rowe, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport beamed. “Jonathan shot into the SupaCup championship lead with a dominant second race win today, Charl Michael was consistent as he consolidated his championship third and what can I say about young Kyle. He drove brilliantly to step up the podium with a second and his first win in the opening races, before delivering another second place to win the Astron Energy Polo Cup day overall.”

“We knew what we had to do today, and while it was a bit dodgy to start with, we bounced back to come away leading the SupaCup championship into the final round,” Jonathan Mogotsi smiled. “Qualifying was not my best and I was only fifth on the grid in my Genuine Parts Volkswagen Motorsport SupaPolo. But I pushed like hell in the first race, fought up to third and came so close to stealing second in the end. Race Two was perfect though. I led from lights to flag and came away leading the championship. Thanks to my incredible Volkswagen Motorsport family for a really on point race car this weekend.”

SupaCup rookie Charl Michael Visser was content with a solid day at the races as he consolidated his championship third at home at Killarney. “That wasn’t quite earth shattering, but it was a good, solid weekend to keep me on course in my championship chase,” Charl Michael explained. “I kept out of trouble, and there was lots of that, and brought it home for good points in both races. Thanks team for a top Astron Energy SupaPolo, as always.”

The happiest person in the Volkswagen Motorsport pit at Killarney was however rookie younger Visser brother Kyle, who delivered a fine maiden Astron Energy Polo Cup victory on his way to a splendid overall win for the day. “Today was the best day of my racing life,” a jubilant Kyle beamed. “My brilliant team gave me a perfect Volkswagen Motorsport Polo Cup car today, I qualified well, scored my best result yet with second in the opening race, and then went one better in heat 2. Then another second was good enough to bag the winner’s trophy, which I dedicate to the guys. Thank you all so much!”

“To be honest, Killarney was an almost perfect day for Volkswagen Motorsport,” Mike Rowe concluded. “The team gave our drivers three great cars to deliver a day at the races that none of us will ever forget. Congratulations, one and all!”
