O’Connor set for Senior kart brawl

Rookie race driver Cameron O’Connor continued to impress on his second outing in the 2017 Investchem Formula 1600 championship at Kyalami on Saturday, when the youngster delivered a fourth and a third in a pair of strong performances at the iconic track. Cameron now switches his attention to the second round of the SA Rotax Senior Max Karting Championships in Cape Town Saturday 29 April.

“We had a good day at Kyalami,” Cameron reflected. “It’s an incredible track with a great legend so I was proud to race there and even better, to fight for second, but I will take my third and fourth places. “That was a good step up from my debut at Killarney, but now we need to work a bit harder to catch Stuart White and then we can think about toppling Julian van der Watt — someone needs to beat him and it would be cool if I could get that right!”

O'Connor heads back to the kart track this coming weekend and he’s looking forward to what promises to be fraught racing among a tough field. “We are going into the Cape guys’ back yard and there are four or five of them who will be out to thrill their home crowd, never mind a few others going down there with the intention to win too. “There is going to be fireworks, but I hope to come out on top and get my championship back on track after that tough Vereeniging first round. “Let’s do it!”
