Mogotsi, Loosemore, Bertholdt chasing Kyalami progress
Following a positive start to its 2025 racing season at Killarney in Cape Town in March, Volkswagen Motorsport is looking to strengthen its championship campaign at the upcoming Blockbuster Extreme Festival powered by Coca-Cola. The event will take place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on11 -and 12 April, where the team will aim to build on its early momentum.
“We enjoyed a positive start to our 2025 racing, but now we must take the fight to the championship leaders” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe explains. “Jonathan Mogotsi and Jason Loosemore enjoyed a strong start to their SATC SupaCup campaign at Kyalami, but we experienced a degree of Cape hometown resistance at Killarney, so the objective is to fight back this weekend. Our Astron Energy Polo Cup rookie Judd Bertholdt had a good start and has the advantage of racing at Kyalami before, so we are looking forward to advancing on all fronts.”
SATC SupaCup champion Jonathan Mogotsi sees keeping out of trouble as the most important part of his Kyalami plan. “Last year’s Kyalami round was chaotic with some wild action in the heats and that impacted on our weekend,” Mogotsi pointed out. “So first and foremost we seek a clean weekend in Jozi. Then there’s the matter of the fourteen points we need to overcome to get back to the top of the championship log, so the pressure is on at Kyalami, but bring it on!”
SupaCup rookie and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason Loosemore was satisfied with his steady start to his 2025 campaign, but he too wants more at Kyalami. “Killarney was a huge learning curve, but I was on the pace and happy to be so close to the front,” Jason admits. “I won a Polo heat at Kyalami last year, so the objective is to work on all the little things and take the challenge to the leaders. “I simply cannot wait for Kyalami!”
Rookie Cup champion and Volkswagen Motorsport Astron Energy Polo Cup driver Judd Bertholdt is no stranger to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. “I have raced at Kyalami before, which makes this weekend a little less daunting because learning the Grand Prix Circuit is a huge task all on its own. “My main objective is to get into Superpole as it is crucial to start in the top six. I’m looking forward to working with my great team and taking it onward and upward from here.”
“Kyalami is the biggest weekend of the Extreme Festival season. Volkswagen Motorsport is looking forward to a blockbuster weekend and a positive step forward,” Rowe concluded. “Good luck Team, see you at Kyalami!”
